Using DSL with an Ethernet Hub or Switch | DSL can be connected to multiple computers by use of an Ethernet Hub or Ethernet Switch. This solution does not provide any routing capability, and does not include any enhanced security features. |

Using DSL with a Router | For many customers who require Internet access for multiple computers, installing a gateway router on their network will provide a versatile solution for Internet access.
Today, inexpensive routers allow a customer to use a network numbering scheme called Network Address Translation or NAT. This is where a routable or static IP is given to a router (on the connection side of the router) and the router will then hand private or non-routable IP's to the users of a network (On the Local Area Network side of the router). There are numerous variations and combinations possible that allow a user to host web and mail servers, host FTP servers and serve multiple users with just a few IP addresses. |
