NEW V.92 Modem Access

V.92 technology is the latest standard for dial-up modems. New features include Internet call waiting- never miss a call while on-line- faster initial connections, and faster connection speeds for improved performance.

Modem On Hold

Users with a V.92 modem can suspend a data call, answer an inbound telephone call, and then re-establish the data call without losing the connection. This feature permits fuller utilization of a single phone line, removes the need for a second line and eliminates time lost when the modem disconnects from the Internet. This feature requires that you subscribe to call waiting and to three way calling from your local telephone provider. If you experience problems with this feature, please contact technical support with the manufacturer of your computer.

Quick Connect

Quick Connect shortens a modem's connection time by remembering the line conditions to the dial-up server. It then uses that information to connect quickly without going through the normal long training sequence. You can re-establish a connection significantly faster than with the previous standard, reducing the waiting period to establish a connection. The increase in connection speed depends on local line conditions. Please note that the first time you connect, you see a regular train up. The second call is in regular cases a Quick Connect.

V.PCM-Upstream

With the new standard, modems can now allow faster upstream communication with upload speeds reaching 48k bits per second (V.90 supports up to 33.6k upstream, although in practice most implementations are limited to 31.2k bits per second). This feature allows faster and smoother uploading and sending of large email messages, documents, spreadsheets, presentations or photos. Pulse Code Modulation (PCM) upstream is not supported on Modem ISDN Channel Aggregation (MICA) modems.

V.44 Data compression Protocol

V.44 is a new link-layer compression Standard. V.44 can be used in conjunction with V.92 for a faster data transfer rate. V.44 and V.42bis are both available on V.92 modems but do not require a V.92 connection to be used. V.44 works with V.90-speed and below connections, as long ask you are dialing into a V.92 ISP. V.44 offers up to a 6:1 compression ratio compared to the 4:1 maximum compression from V.42bis. This results in faster uploads and downloads even without a V.92 modem.
